Single Side Mount
« on: August 12, 2024, 06:32:33 PM »
Working on a quad bike design with 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering and full suspension.  Due to its large mostly open center space and direct drive, the Magic Pie motor looks perfect except it would need a new axle and bearing setup.  I’d probably remount the controller externally.

In order to proceed, it would be nice to have an installation drawing of the stator, rotor and connecting parts including the shaft and bearings.  If these are not available, I’ll buy a motor, take it apart and measure it.  Or perhaps someone out there might have a scrap one they’d be willing to sell cheap or donate.

The design will be open source and I’m an old engineer doing it to keep the cobwebs out.

Hi andto the forum.

Here are a few 4 wheel drive vehicles that have been built using Magic Pies but they are all secured using both ends of the axle:

Unfortunately, there are no decent drawings showing the construction of the Magic Pie but the following should help:

Rear Magic Pie III Stator

Rear Magic Pie III Axle

Front and Rear Magic Pie Dimensions

Single side mounting suggestion

Bearing information

The Magic Pie axles have a 14mm thread with 10mm flats.

Hopefully the above information will be helpful to you.
