Setting of HPC 300
« on: December 15, 2018, 11:23:46 AM »
Hi

I am a new memeber here....

I currently modify a Quantya with HPB 5000 motor with 72 V and HPC 300 controller
I use a 72V 42 Ah battery with 100 Ampere battery management system

all is installed but I cannot get the bike to the performance I want.  >:(
the acceleration is smooth, maximum speed is ok, but I expected much better performance. In addition the bike slows down after a few minutes of operation to almost zero.

whatever setting I adjust, factory setting or individual settings.... the performance and acceleration stays the same.

Does anybody have an idea or can recommend a setting of the HPC 300 controller?

thanks

Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang andto the forum.

It sounds as if the motor (or controller) is getting too hot, causing the power to be reduced.

This can sometimes happen if the gearing for the motor is too high and it is continually working hard at reduced rpm.

Lower gearing will give much better acceleration, increase the torque at the wheel, and also reduce the load on the motor, allowing it (and the controller) to run much cooler.

What is the current overall gear ratio of the bike?

Hi Alan,

it is app. 16/51, with 428 chain, but the max speed is 70 km/h which is ok.

currently I have no other sprocket, But I agree that this is more or less how it feels.

would you recommend the factory settings? or individual settings

I will try to get a smaller sprocket and report

Thanks and best regards

Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

I don't know the outer diameter of your driven tyre, but I suspect that your gear ratio of just 3.1875:1 (51/16) is probably much too high.

Electric-Motion use the same 5kW motor in a trials bike which has a top speed of 55km/h using a gear reduction ratio of ~12.9:1:

Check out this post for more details on their double reduction gear setup.

Unfortunately, there is very little information available regarding the setting of the parameters for individual installations, so it is basically a question of trial and error to determine what settings work best with your particular application.  ::)

I would start with the factory default settings for a 72V battery and see what improvements can be made by adjusting one parameter at a time and observing the effect.

Alan

thank you for opening my mind.

After thinking a little ::) and considering the gear ratio of my other motorcycles....

It is clear now what happens ;)

I will try to get a gear ratio of app 10:1 by using a primary gear transmission as EM does.

best regards

Wolfgang
