Bike Convertion project(MP 3)

Hello everybody

I am new to the forum, I did go around the many treads and there is some good information to read. Thank for the different advices and experiences. 

So here goes for the first post

I would like to convert my bike to electric (rear wheel). Using Magic Pie 3.
Bike model: Fuji 2.0, 8 speeds, wheel 700C

I read this Post(eriknoort) about 9 speed adaptations for the MP 3, he had to realign the MP or wheel if your prefer to the left to fit the 9 gear cassette.

    (1)   Question about spoke: who could tell me what would be the length of the spoke that I   need to adapt 8 speeds cassette with the MP3.
    (2)   Is there some other point that I didn’t see, that would complicate the conversion project? Contraindications to take in account?

Other Post (Andrew) who needed extra washers on the gear side, so it wouldn’t rub on the bike frame. The washers needed could be found at bike.ca, link (SpaceWasher14) 5$ each, my guess it cheaper to buy than fill some odds shape. 

And last, I am thinking to use Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tire  Link for the bike, they seem to be quite durable product, 10K mile!! 700x35C

So next step is to call Gary(GM.ca) to ask him what’s left in stock!

Any suggestion, recommendation, whatever could help me ease the conversion WILL be gladly appreciated.

Here was my reply. I see nothing too personal here so I posted it.

"When you look at the page for each item if the option for "add to cart" is there then it is in stock. I do my best to ship everything with 1 or 2 days, then its about 2-4 days to Montreal depending on shipping method you select"

What would be the length of the spoke that I need to adapt 8 speeds cassette with the MP3.

Eric, the MPIIIs do not suffer from the offset rim problem that the original MKI Pies had, so there should be no need to change any spokes.  Small adjustments can be done by slacking the spokes on one side and tightening them on the other to bring the rim into a central position if necessary.

The overall width of the MPIII side covers is narrower than the MKI Pie that Erik used, so it should not need to be spaced very much to accommodate an eight speed freewheel.

My MPIII is fitted with a seven speed Shimano MegaRange freewheel and did not require any additional washers on the axle as the clearance between the freewheel and the frame is absolutely perfect:


Please note that the MPIII uses the older style thread-on freewheel gear cluster assembly rather than the newer cassette units that are designed to fit onto a splined free-wheeling hub unit:
