My new bike build
« on: March 19, 2011, 07:03:02 PM »
I've been putting together a mountain bike with bits n pieces i've had hanging about, a few parts from Ebay and a few parts from a generous cousin.  I've tried to keep things cheap, the frame is brand new and was a reasonable £50.00GBP it is also rear rack and disc brake compliant ;) , if i'm honest with myself it has cost around £200.00 total - so far!
I've never built a bike from scratch and it has been quite frustrating learning how many variations of sizes and fitments there are whilst sourcing parts, it certainly does not make things easy to assemble.

The bike is very light and as you can see i've also sourced a heavy duty frame bag from the USA  which arrived today and i've managed to fit in to it a triangular 54v Lithium ion pack courtesy of forum member Ginge. The pack almost did not fit through the side pocket of the bag but actually it could have been made to measure.   By the way, the bag comes with a key operated ignition , not sure if I will use it.

All I need to do now is to electrify the bike to really bring to life.

Andrew :)

give it a couple of weeks once the infineon  arrives, and I might have a few electriky bits for you

p.s. glad about the battery, bit of a challenge in the cell soldering department :)

The battery is awesome, I could not have asked for a better solution when it came to a frame situated pack, and as said before the pack is made to measure with the bag.

and as far as motor is concerned, dual mini's has to be the way forward ;D,,,  I hear that Flux capacitors are over rated :D

Looks awesome! Should be stealthy with a mini setup.

I'm hoping that I will be able to fit in two controllers inside the bag, and have all cables runnig in and out of the bag. Do the external controllers get hot? and what are the rough dimensions?(edit: I've found dimensions on GM site)

the frame bag has a purpose made exit hole in the top left corner where the top tube meets the seat post tube.  It's a pity that the bag zippers are not the other way around when closed as that would have given me even more neat options to run cables. I'm sure it will all work itself out. I plan on adding disc brakes and I will remove the regen and cruise components and cables just to keep things simple.

Yes! Aparently some American bloke in the 1950's designed a system to get the American economy moving after World War II.   He said that people would be known as 'consumers' and that for the system to work people would have to manufacture and produce stuff and then consume it at an ever accelerating and increasing rate.   Though from what I understand he never left plans for what to do if the system stopped working :-\  .    But luckily, as you can see, I'm keeping things afloat for the time being :D
