does it go like this? two batteries, two ways of connecting => two options

hi guys,
since I do not understand basically anything concerning electrics or electronics I'd like to place a question for you experts.

Hopefully soon coming MP II (or maybe also all GM ?) hubs can use 72V.

My first question is: Is this correct? => If I take two 36V batteries and 'connect' them together - and there is these two different ways of connecting ( I do not know correct english terms for them, parallel (?) and xxx) - does it mean that I could have
1) 36V, slower speed and more time for driving or 2) 72V, faster speed and shorter time for driving.

second question is: naturally you experts have figured this out (if this can be done), how did you solve this? How do you change the mode between distance and speed..?

I think there has been a thread about parallel and series switching, just use search and make wonders. But you can do that, but gm controllers are limited to 63v. That means it doesn't work on 72 V what means you need to get a different controller or wait for the newer one. But I have seen 72v on gm hubs.

Yes it can be done.

Two 36v batteries or three 24v batteries make 72v.
