Magic Pie broke...
« on: March 11, 2010, 07:52:58 AM »
Hey all,

I'm in a bit of a situation here, in the Netherlands.
My mp doesn't work anymore and I don't know what to do, I was 2 times late in class and all
I know is that it works about 500 meters and then the throttle doesn't work, it works and then it shuts down.
what should I check before sending it all the way back?

Greetings

Kevin,

  • What is the battery voltage when the fault occurs? (Are the battery gauge lights still lit up?)

  • Do you get any beeps from the motor?

  • Try holding down the cruise control button (when the fault occurs) to see if the motor runs at half throttle.

  • If you have the pedelec sensor connected, disconnect it and then test the bike again.

  • Make sure that all the connectors are still properly connected and that none of the wires have worked loose.
(Disconnecting and reconnecting each connector a few times should improve poor contacts)

You should set off earlier to ensure you're not late for class again! ;D

I hope it's something very simple so the motor does not need to be returned.

i don't have a horn inside my mp
the connections I got where all bad and I rea-solderd them
the problem is it works for like 500 meters and then it stops,
could it be that my battery cable is just broke?

If the battery gauge lights are still working, it means that adequate power is getting to the motor and the battery lead should be OK.
(Unless there is a break somewhere between the moulded junction block on the motor harness and the speed controller within the motor.)

Double check that it's not a sticking brake lever, as that could cause the lever switch to stop the motor from working.
And check for a short somewhere in the brake switch wiring where you have soldered the connections, it might be that the insulation has moved (or worn through on a sharp edge of a soldered joint) causing the wires to touch.

I would check the battery voltage (and the battery gauge lights) when the fault occurs, to rule out any possibility of battery or BMS failure.

the battery voltage was 54 fully charged so that's okay but I didn't connect the gauge lights.
also I can't test it because it doesn't do anything now.

the only flaw I found was that the red cable coming from the motor that goes into a connector that goes into the battery, maybe that's it?
should I replace that bit of cable?

well I reconnected the battery after cutting the ripped part of the cord(wiring) and saw that there also was a peace of at the - side so taped that up with electrical tape. but now I don't know if that was the problem so I am going to school tomorrow early and test it properly :D also the half speed works now if I unplugg the throttle

and I don't use pedelec

Kevin,

Was it a poor/broken connection or a shorted one?

Either way, let's hope you've cured the problem.

hey I got another question, my mp doesn't start immediately. I first have to paddle to about 8 km/h before I can use the throttle. I didn't had this last summer?

If you unplug the throttle, does the half speed work from a standstill?

no, it doesn't work.
i thought it might be sensorless mode or so?

As mine works at half throttle from a standstill with the throttle disconnected, it looks like you could have a problem with the hall sensors (or the speed controller itself).

I would send an email to Tom (zhourenli@goldenmotor.com) explaining the problem and see what he says.
