Got pulled over with my MP
« on: November 28, 2009, 05:28:15 PM »
I got pulled over by some cops today,
they wondered how I could go so fast on a MTB, I said it was an electric MTB assist bike with a hub motor. they didn't believed me it was a 250W continuous , so I showed them my speed meter( I setted my speedo to an circumference of 1366, so when I do 38km/h normal it shows that im only going 25km/h and that's the EU legal speed limit.) also I showed them that if I press the thumb throttle it didn't work without pedalec( I pulled the brake levers a little bit so the wheel didn't spinned.) so I asked him to spin the paddle, then I pressed the throttle (not the levers this time) and the wheel spinned. also I put a sticker on the battery saying it's a 24v 24ah battery. that means they got nothing.
further on I was telling them how much safety stuff I have on the bike.

-Front and Rear disk brake
-Big mudguards
-900 lumen magicshine bike light
-reflectors
-big chain lock
-no hanging cables
-big MTB tires for grip
etc. etc.

in the end they believed me(after a 15 min talk) ;)
and I went on with my trip to the gym.

cheers,

kevin h form the Netherlands

We need to have speed limits put on us just like cars.

Power limits are retarded.

Looky here. This by decree is a legal bike. 80mph push pedals.

And this is just insane.  He still lives though.. Down hill speed records.  Legal!

Cars are insane killers and just insane.

Cars
are.
Explosive

Can.
Put out more smoke in a day than a chain cigarette smoker would in month.

Do
Destroy the breathing air for all.

Require
Stinking gas stations and you need to pump petrol into them in a dangerous situation. Gas stations should be illegal as the concept of having a gas pump out doors on a street corner is crazy like insane.

Young children are imprisoned in their home due to the safety issue cars and their owners cause.

Cars kill more people and children in a week than all the extreme sports combined in the world in a year. (Ball park out of my ass figure)

Cars turn people into vegetables that cant even feed themselves all the time.

Cars can even kill people in their living room.

Cars kill more people than sharks and dangerous illegal pets like snakes and stuff.

If I was an insane mad "institutionable" scientist, I would invent ICE a car that pushes 200 kw or more.

And they call us crazy.  ::)

Now tell me why they are even legal at the power and speed they are registered to go.

I was being a little silly drinking soda and riding didn’t get the brakes on time.  The car in front stopped too quick and my leg hit the car as I swerved.  I powerd on and stopped.  The car took off like a rocket and some idiot called out to me, "there is too much power in that".

One mistake and jumped on.  No injury to a car or me, and the bike is 1000000 kw killer.

Just be careful buddy.  Even being hurt would just give them a reason to make our lives unbearable.

But its ok for Sarah Snootsworth to break her leg in five places riding Nody in dressage.

We need a stealth motor here in Europe - that looks like a Shimano or Rohloff hub gear  :)

You could always have some suitable wording printed the hub's housing like:
Quote
EEBS Warning:
The Enclosed Electrical Braking System
must be serviced annually by a
GM Authorised Service Center.
Failure to comply with these servicing
requirements will invalidate the warranty.

It should be enough to throw them off the scent. ;)

The rear GM mini motor does look like a hub gear.

I like the sound of this:
Quote
One thing I haven't mentioned yet is how quiet this hub is. If you are familiar with other internal hubs you know that they usually have a "gear" sound. The Nuvinci hub is practically silent. One thing that they've done is include an extremely quite freewheel. While most freewheels will produce that familiar "tick-tick-tick" ratchet sound while coasting, not so much with this one.

if GM could reverse engineer this then they would go up in my estimations.

I like the idea of a silent free wheel. i'm sure you can get them, or could get them at some point in the past?

in my country it is also illegal to have more than 250w and only pedalassited motor are allowed.

doing much thought how to avoid being caught with 2X1000 :) so help me god.

anyway I am still with kit and boxes and not as golden motor dudes forgot to send me inside the kit the aluminum panel that allows me to mount the battery on the rear rack.
