Throttle guide

Hi All,

I went with a 5 kW BLDC Golden Motor and the matching controller (EZkontrol 48 Volt Universal BLDC Motor Controller, 800 Amps), but I'm having difficulty figuring out the throttle controls. We've rigged the boat's mechanical throttle to a Curtis PB-6 style controller (so it is a potentiometer style). It takes a lot of travel before the motor kicks in, and it goes right to 4500 RPM and doesn't change no matter how far along I go. Is there an easy guide to figuring out how I need to change the controller settings? I'm having issues even seeing what the options are unless I'm connected to the controller via bluetooth.

Any guidance on how others have programmed their setup would be appreciated

I am using the 3kw version of your motor which I purchased with a Kelly controller and a 'wig wag' throttle.  This worked for about 2 weeks then the controller turned into a brick and the throttle fell to bits.  I had to go over to a Sevcon controller and work through throttle issues.  I finally settled on a Curtis PB6 linked up to a boat mechanical throttle via a cable.

I cannot help with you controller settings but can tell you the issues I had with mine; Firstly I needed to set the voltage band (max and min) the controller expected to see and then a dead point (voltage range within the band) that corresponded to motor off.  The 'wig wag' function also needs to be set.  This all sounds really simple but in practice it took a lot of testing and adjusting. 

Another thing, do you have the controller set for rpm based speed control?  If it is set for torque based speed control you will have no speed control until the motor is under load!

Ah, thank you about the torque base speed control note. Everything is pretty much set to default , and I remember seeing that.  This is very helpful.

I do wish there was a better guide on all the various settings. It's a bit tricky trying to figure it all out only when I'm attached to the controller.
