Magic Pie 4 Max DC Input Current?
« on: July 09, 2015, 04:06:44 PM »
I'm would like to put a fuse in front of my Magic Pie 4's in order to protect them from too much current. What's the maximum dc input current that the motors can handle? I'm running them at just under the maximum 60V.

The fuse is to protect the battery  in the event of a short on the power cables etc.(and sometimes the controller if it is accidentally connected incorrectly), it is not supposed to to be used as a current limiter for the motor.
The maximum current available to the motor should be determined by the controller.

The Magic Pies can handle at least 100A in short bursts but I don't know what the maximum continuous current would be before the windings start to overheat.

I apologize for misspeaking. I meant the vector controller that is directly connected to the motor. I still would like to know the maximum continuous current to the controller. Thanks.

I don't know what the maximum continuous current is for the Vector controller but the maximum peak current is typically around 30 Amps on mine and the highest recorded current was 34.45 Amps. This high current is only drawn under full load at very low speed. As the speed increases the maximum current is automatically reduced.
