3kW e-bike commuter
« on: October 20, 2014, 06:39:47 PM »
While I'm at it here's my second post. I decided I'd had enough of my top heavy mountain bike based e-bike and it was time for a better quality, better handling build. With a nod towards the motorcycle styles of the early 20th century, the frame is constructed from 1.5" x 0.65" and 1" ERW mild steel tubing. The offset mounted box is full of LifePo4 48 volt 20 amp battery pack. As you can see I also added 8" front / 6" rear disc brakes which work much better than the old v-brake mtb. The 80mm wide rear rim and 3" wide tire assure additional attitude. The GM 901 works very well with the recent upgrade to a custom built 3000 watt 80 amp controller. The bike is very comfortable and well balanced to ride on my daily commute to work. I've since changed to a double crown fork, with black riser bars and hardware which adds to it's beefier look.
