Smart Pie & MPIII Pedal resistance
« on: November 07, 2013, 09:23:50 PM »
Hello!

New here and I've been busy reading a lot lately.. I've read through Gary's FAQ and looked through many posts to find more specifics on the amount of resistance on the different models.

I understand the 902 has zero resistance.

The Smart Pie has a "small" amount of resistance.

The Magic Pie 3 has resistance.

My question is, can someone give a real life comparison of these?

Say something like-
Smart Pie - has resistance equal to peddling along on a slight grade hill
Magic Pie 3 - has resistance equal to peddling along on a medium grade hill

I ride mainly for a workout, so I'm not afraid of peddling against resistance. However, if peddling against a MP3 is the equivalent of going up a steep hill and I've got to stand up to pedal through, well maybe I'll get the Smart Pie and deal with the loss of torque..

Thanks!

A long time late for a reply but to anyone overly concerned with the free wheel "resistance" of GM direct drive non geared hubs should not be. The GM MPIII and SP resistance is minimal without power assist... one does NOT have to stand on the pedals to overcome it!! (and I have gone electro because of old sport damaged knees / legs).
