Hello,,
On my way back from work today my e-bike just stopped. It's a rather new front wheel kit, I bought it in January this year.  What happened is that the MP3 just stopped working, while the lights on the throttle is still lit. No response from the motor when I squeeze the throttle.

The strange thing is that the wheel is not spinning freely, there is a kind of resistance when I try to spin the wheel. chopping ,,more or less. , I am able to replace the controller card, but I don't think this is the case here since I am not able to spin the wheel freely..  Any suggestions?

Check the motor sensors or just unplug the sensor connector and see what happen.

Hi,,
I 'am not 100% sure where the motor sensor is located on the wheel. "Unplug the sensor connector" -- is that one of the cables on the harness (1-5)? - or can it be accessed when I open the controller itself?

Like I said the wheel is not spinning freely even when there is no power on at all.

Aha sorry I misread your info.
Well there could be several problems: bearings, rotor, stator gets stuck.
So only way to find is open the motor..... :(

Thks for your reply. I think I first have to talk to the reseller since the wheel is still under warranty... I have had several MP3 kits, but I have never experienced that the wheel itself is stuck   :(

You mean with "there is no power" when the battery plug is removed?

Or just you don't apply throttle power to the motor?

From Terry's description in the original post, I would say it is most likely to be a failed controller rather than a mechanical failure.

Terry, disconnecting the three phase wires from the controller (inside the motor) should allow the wheel to turn easily again if my suspicions are correct, but make sure you obtain permission from your dealer first before you dismantle anything.

Here's the correct technique for removing the wire clip that holds the cable against the axle:

Check out Gary's video on YouTube for more details on removing the controller.

Maybe its just me but I am not seeing your pictures Alan..

This certainly does sound like a controller failure to me as well. If you remove the controller the wheel should spin freely again.

Hi, folks..

Thnks for advice. I will call my dealer today and ask for further investigation and what to do next. I am starting to gain more experience with the MP III wheel, and I have been collected some spare parts  in my cellar.
In my humble opinion  I feel that the MP III kit doesn't last very long before something goes wrong, unfortunately. My current  MP 3 is only little over three months  My previous kit (which is now fitted to my wife's bike) - lasted little over 4 months before I had to replace the controller.

When riding the bike to work (approx. 11 km one way) I do not overspeed and I have a normal speed of 28 - 30 km/h..
I wish that the build quality of the components could be better :=(

Yup when I was a noob at E bike hobby, I have bought the MP III motor.
Just ready to run it's a nice concept.
But quality and design are bad!

I like the motor it has strong cover and nice winding job!
You can't say that to my new Crystalyte HS3540 ;D
I had to do mods before using this new motor.

I am riding 75 km (for work) a day so I switched to Kellycontroller and Crystalyte :)

But I am missing the torque, with MP3 the start was fantastic....
Only end speed is a little low....

i have around 3,500 miles on my mp3 with the stock internal controller running at 48v and I do not baby it. I live on an island of mountains and the bike gets abused and just keeps running. I am very happy with the quality and everything else.

Hi Terry
Check the brake handles....if they are engaged....even a fraction of an inch, they throw the wheel into regen mode....that's why the wheel gives resistance....I had the same prob when I first set mine up...the brake handle was hung up...all lights on and no throttle response....Ed
