New mini car project: Bolt (help needed)

Hi everyone,

 
We're from Portugal and we're finishing the plans for a go kart style mini car for children 3-10.












The version on the pictures is the adult one, the kids version is a single seat with the dimensions and specs as follows:

Chassis: Balsa encapsulated in fiber glass

Frame: Tubular Inox

Dimensions: 1450x720x380mm

Wheel overall diameter: 150mm

Weight: 16Kg

Transmission: chain drive to rear live axle (sprockets ratio depends on motor RPM)

Max speed: 5-20Km/h configurable on the motor controller

Battery Autonomy: minimum of 30 minutes assuming a 40Kg driver at max throttle

 
At first sight, from the GM range of products we'd pick the 90-BDLC-003 (48V/750w) and the BAC-02802P (48V/50A).

Can the local gurus confirm that this is a good combo for the project? Alternatively, can you please suggest another combo?

Assuming we can use this controller, we'll need the specs to build our own accelerator pedal, based on a pot like this: http://www.bitechnologies.com/pdfs/404.pdf
Does GM supply this information?

After we've completed the first small model and depending on the local requirements to make a quadricycle street legal, we might consider building the adult version.

There's an Foot throttle....

I think the max speed and range it should get, is it gonna accelerate much of the time. So it isn't 20km/h max all the time, am I right here?
So no 10km range needed? A 48v 12Ah sold by Gm may be tomuch Wh for that max 10km of range.
If you do get 2 48v 6ah you will be able to charge one battery and use the other in the mean time.

ALso I think the combination of that 48v bldc motor with the magic controller will work, but i've never seen it on this forum.
Maybe if you search for some old questions by some guy, don't recall his name, but he used an infineon controller with an hub motor from gm, so there might be a picture on how to connect a different from gm controller with an gm hub, this picture will also show wich components/wires should be placed where on the controller.

Everything helps at this stage :)

The GM pedal is too bulky for our design and we'll need a second brake pedal. These are the reasons we're looking into making our own set of matching pedals.

As for the battery suggestion, if an older and heavier kid uses the car, we'll likely have to set the controller for max power (or close to it). Since I can't find the continuous/peak current values we were aiming at a 48v/20Ah but we'll be extremely happy if we can use a cheaper 10-12Ah pack that lasts at least 30 mins.

I'll keep waiting for more info but thank for your input!
