eBike Speedometer/Computer
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:43:03 AM »
Has anyone discovered a decent eBike speedometer/computer that also monitors battery charge level?  The 3-light LED thing that comes with the Magic Pie kit throttle greatly lacks in accuracy.

How can I test the power properly?

I use a cheap and cheerful ($23.95) Turnigy Watt meter and power analyzer, which can be connected load->motor for power consumption readings or load->battery for regen measurements:

The biggest problem with the Turnigy unit is that it loses all data when power is turned off (or if the LVC is triggered), unless you use an additional battery (9V PP3 etc.).

A better option would be the Cycle Analyst which has a lot more functions, but with a price tag of $140 for the standalone version it's a lot more expensive too, and I couldn't justify the extra cost for my particular use.

I don't think the less expensive one will give your speed, but the cost savings might be worth it to have a separate speedometer.

I have the SA (Stand Alone) version of the Cycle-Analyst, even though it's expensive, I consider it worth every penny.  Definitely recommended!

I have the CA_SA cycle analyst ( available on my site as well) on one of my bikes and I find since I did the advanced hookup, it is worth every penny. The amount of information it gives out is amazing and it is fantastic at controlling speed, amps etc. I have friends with ebikes as well and one of my friends bikes only goes 29kph. So when I ride with him I set my max speed to 29 kph and we ride together perfectly. When I ride to work I set it at 32kph (legal limit in Canada) and when I want to really go... well you get the idea.
