Motor won't disengage

I recently purchased a 36v 500w rear hub kit and now for some reason the throttle is engaged constantly. It is not at full throttle and I can easily hold the bike back or pull on the brakes to cut it off, but it is a little concerning. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi andto the forum Johnny.

First of all, I would suggest you try unplugging the throttle and see if it the motor still tries to run. If it keeps on running with the throttle disconnected, it could be a problem within the controller itself.
If the motor stops when you disconnect the throttle, then either the throttle control or the wiring going to it may be at fault. A poor connection on the black lead between the throttle and the speed controller could cause this fault. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors a few times to try and clean the contacts and see if it helps.

If you have access to a voltmeter, we should be able to hopefully guide you through some simple diagnostic checks to try and pinpoint the fault.

Try the above suggestions first and then report back with your findings, it would also help if you can tell us which speed controller you have as well.

I will have to try that tomorrow. I had the box that came with the kit open and was checking connections tonight but I have to work and so it's bedtime ;-) I'll keep you posted as I try your suggestions. Thanks for the quick response. I know you seem to be the goto guy around here :-)

It may be a throttle issue. I have also noticed that none of my led's for the battery level have worked on the throttle since day one. I'll try that tomorrow

Johnny, for the battery gauge to work, you must first connect the green wire from the throttle control to the battery +ve connection.

Sorry about the delay, my Internet connection was down. Thanks for the info about the battery gauge. Gary told me about it too.

I disconnected the twist throttle and the controller didn't turn the wheel with it disconnected.

I attached the thumb throttle to the controller and have had no problems since. I will email Gary as well.
