Hello! New here, Golden Motor 800W BLDC Trike Motor questions.
« on: October 13, 2011, 11:56:39 PM »
Heya all, I've been using and building E-Bikes of different kinds over the last couple of years, mostly hub motors, and now mid-drives.

I got this wonderful motor (the one to the right) that is listed as 800W.

I've had great performance of the motor, no problems there, however, the #420 motorcycle sprocket I could do with-out.  ;)

For the meantime, I have ground down this sprocket for use with standard 1/8 bicycle chain, but I am in search of options for bolt-on sprockets that will allow me to use different chain.  It uses a 14mm shaft with 5mm key, so anyone who can steer me towards other bolt-on options for sprockets would be greatly appreciated.  8)

It's looking like a custom made sprocket from Staton Inc. is the only solution so far, and since this motor spins pretty fast, going to be using #25 chain for a nice compact first stage reduction. (6 to 1)

Here are some pics of my build thus far:

Running this motor at 12S of Turnigy Nanotech LiPo, so about 47V 12AH's of 25 - 50C LiPo that is pretty remarkable, the batteries never get warm even when I am pushing the motor to it's limits climbing the local 10%+ grade hill climbing it with my not so low gearing (I'm using a NuVinci N171B 350% ratio hub, 1.75 over drive, 0.5 underdrive) with a gearing rang of 17 MPH - 60 MPH!  :o

Needless to say, I'm not able to use the full range of gearing.  ;D

Great looking ride and very comfy I bet. I just got to ask...

60 MPH? Excuse my asking but are you fuggin nuts? :o :o :o

Sorry just seems a little extreme. I had my 48v1000 901 up to 30 miles an hour I thought that was fast on a bike. Double that? wow I'm shaking thinking about it :)

I think member "who42" has done a few things with the gears on these motors. Maybe he can share his experience with you.

Hi all
looking for M/c's 420 chain freewheels to fit on stardard tread bicycles M35 at 1.0 mm which is the normal freewheel tread use adaptor freewheel and bolt on one side use locknuts nylon/aluminium as  well .
(But if you have an engieering machine shop nearby you can modify)
most small motorcycles  (50cc up to 175cc)  with gears, have them.(honda/yamaha/suzuki) engin 13 to 17.... rear wheel starts about 32 going up but you can find some smaller ones as low as 25 but thats harder to source except mail order  or luck.
if you want 2 on same side pedal and drive (use bearing holder from pedal shaft lefthand side thats same tread except for one piece cranks )
If you put power on lefthand side of rear wheel you will have to put additional locking nuts (2 recomend and you may need to do some machining to get locknuts on or drivemotor will unscrew the tread ! )

look at sites like this for idea's and think locally!
bicycle chains are great if you like buying new ones every 300 miles you may find that small m/c's parts will normally handle 7 Kw
(keep the drive on the right with your NuVinci hub and go back to 420 chain one good freewhell adator and  say 32  or 29 tooth rear m/c cog and your there)

Try to put a smile on the face of others it cost nothing ...by what you say !

I am looking at the list of spockects on this page.

http://www.electricscooterparts.com/sprockets.html

It is overwhelming and I have no idea which one would fit the trike motors and standard bicycle chain as well. Any Ideas? Where is Thaialien when you need him :)
