EABS system
« on: July 04, 2011, 02:00:58 PM »
Hi

I bought a controller that has a EABS System. I assume it has something to do with braking. But after a google search, I am not much wiser on what it exactly is? So if there is anyone who knows anything about the system, I would like to hear what you can tell about it.

The controller should be able to use regen braking. Is that a part of the EABS system?

I'm guessing that EABS is an acronym for Electrical Anti-lock Braking System, which is basically just a more technical sounding term for Regenerative Braking.

Regenerative Braking on most motors won't work at very slow speeds, so it cannot actually lock the wheel up even though the braking force on the wheel may be very strong at higher speeds. Therefore regen could easily be referred to as an Electrical Anti-lock Braking System (EABS).

It could also stand for Electrically Assisted Braking System as well.

I'd say the last explanation are the correct one; Electrically Assisted Braking System, since i've no problem at all, getting my gm motor to lock up totally using regen brakes at wintertime on ice and snow... ;D

(To get Anti-Lock braking to work with gm motors/controllers, one would need a separate speed sensor to detect that one are still moving while the e-brake locks the wheel... :) )
