Smartpie5 LCD Display does not save data
« on: November 05, 2020, 12:09:11 PM »
hi,

my smartpie5 is working very good, but there is a little problem with the LCD display.
every time I switch off the power, daily trip or ODO data are not saved, so each new start all trip data and ODO are 0 again.

There ist an E65 (Error) displayed, pas-sensor is not installed.

any idea how to solve this ?

Hi Hannes,

I have an early version of the BAC-601 Display and mine also loses all the trip information when power is turned off.  :(
The biggest problem I find with the BAC-601 Display unit is that it does not retain any of the trip data when the battery is turned off, the odometer is the only information that isn't lost.

But, I don't understand why yours isn't saving the odometer data. ???

I get the error code "1" on mine when either of the brake levers are operated, but I think the later displays show E65 instead, which simply shows that the EBS is active. (E85 might have been better for EBS).

The word "ERROR" is usually displayed to indicate an error code as shown above.

hi alan,

thank you for your answer, so e65 is a feature and not a bug ;-).
i will finsh my installation with programming the controller and hope that the odo is saving the data after this.

thx hannes

hi alan,

i finished my installation with the pas-sensor and everything works fine exept the odometer data saving.
so I have to use another small bike-computer to save the data...
the gm retailer told me that loosing all data when turning off the power is normal an not an missfunktion of the display.

When in settings menu I set the LCD back light to 3 (max), but after entering & exiting the back light goes off & stays off - is there a trick to getting it back on again?

Older manual, but the only one I know of... see page 7.

It should be the same as TC has already pointed out:
Quote
Long press “UP+MODE” button, back light on.
Then again long press “UP+MODE” button, back light off.

My BAC-601 display is an early version and this works with mine.

Hopefully it will work with yours too.

Hannes,

I have a 2018 model for a Magic Pie V5.  As said, the trip data is erased after shut-off. But the total miles ridden, or odometer mileage, is kept and updated. I would double check with GM and make sure they are understanding you correctly. Or a newer model has lost this feature...? (Doubtful)

Just a snippet from the older manual link posted previously...
"ODO ( total cumulative mileage km)."

hi,
communication with the retailer is not very helpful, so I put another standard mini bicycle computer in my velomobil for the trip an total km. ...this works for me, but the lcd display from gm is for nothing except  for watching the speed without glasses and for setting up the pass assistance.

gm stuck somewhere 10 years ago, when I compare with my bafang bbs2 system.

but I like it, it fits perfect in my velomobil, speed ist ok and it is not too loud. (and there are less dd on the market and none with automatic speedcontrol)
