Magic Pie and Vector question
« on: April 04, 2018, 11:06:02 PM »
Can you tell me the shaft size of the Magic Pie 5 (VECTOR) 26 Inch Rear Conversion Kit and the Magic Pie Edge (VECTOR) 26 Inch Rear Conversion Kit (8-10 Cassette)
I currently have a have an 8 speed 11-34 cassette setup it looks like the shaft size is 3/8 or the metric equivalent
Just trying to decide which conversion kit is best. I know they make a freewheel  8 speed 11-34 but they are around 80 bucks

Thanks

Sean

Hi Sean,

All of the Magic Pies (including the freewheel version of the Magic Pie Edge) have a 14mm diameter axle with 10mm flats, but the cassette version of the Magic Pie Edge has a smaller 12mm diameter axle with the same 10mm flats.

All of these axles should fit into a standard 10mm (3/8") wide dropout slot.

80 bucks sounds a bit expensive for a 11-34T freewheel, I found one for less than $30 on Lunar Cycle's website.

I am thinking of going with the 8-speed freewheel version of the edge due to the larger 14 mm shaft. I measured the rear wheel space at 137 mm Will I have to spread the frame to get it to fit? it is an aluminum frame
