My Magic Pie II (Generates Power) Without Battery!!!

First off! I do not have a battery yet!!!

When I reach about 7 mph or more from Pedaling, the battery power indicator lights work, Regenerative Brakes Work & Horn Works... Why is this?

Most permanent magnet motors will also work as a generator and start producing a voltage which will get higher as their driven speed increases.

Although this is great for regenerative braking, it unfortunately produces unwanted drag when the motor is not being used, which makes it harder to pedal.

It works pretty much like a standard hub dynamo:

 

 

But the Magic Pie is much bigger and can therefore generate a lot more power!
This might also explain why it causes the extra drag.

Don't run this thing without a battery or with the battery turned off. GM claims to have freewheeling diodes and I'm sure they do, but if you are generating 10 volts through zero to.01 ohms, then you could potentially have catastrophic failure.
The voltage constant is voltage produced / rpm, usually given as volts per rpm and maximum rpm will happen when applied voltage equals generated voltage

I made an interesting observation while riding my 1000W rear hub a few days ago. I was riding without my battery attached and was playing with the reverse button (red button on the twist throttle). When I pushed the button in and then back out, all 3 lights on the throttle battery indicator lit up and the horn works as well. Somehow, doing this allowed the controller to receive power?
