Are all motors capable of regenerative braking?
« on: May 08, 2010, 03:29:56 PM »
Based on point that all (e)motors have more or less countercurrently breaking capability due to electromagnetic rules.

Do all hub motors have by themselves regen braking capability controlled by standard controller?
Can controller feel the current flow in/out of motor and charge the battery if it notice that angle of load is negative (going downhill)?

Is breaking paddle that has sensor on handle necessary to give controller the idea that you are attempt to break so it swiches in generator mode ?

What do I need to have to have regen braking if I have standard eBike kit? (motor, controller, battery, thumb throttle)

Thank you for your answers.

About a standard eBike kit.

1. The Magic Pie with a battery of your choice
has regen
2. Any goldenmotor kit except the freewheel ones have a regen braking function with the right controller.

Not all hub motors - only those that does not have a freewheel like the Mini Hub from Golden Motor and have a controller that is designed to do so. Witch means that standard controllers of most other brands are not capable of. All e-bike GM controllers have this function!

No, the regenerative is activated by the switch at the brake lever.

Yes

You need a controller that is designed to do so, like the Magic Controller
