Waterproofing Magic Pies electrics 100%
« on: August 02, 2013, 09:01:53 PM »
If anyone's thinking of waterproofing their Hubmotor electronic circuitry and winding etc 100% theres a new spray product just came out  called Nano protech based on nano technology it claims to completely waterproof the electronics 100% the one you need to look for is the NANO (PROTECH ELECTRONIC PROFESSIONAL) which has the concentrated amount of the nano particles, they also demonstrate it on youtube and it cost £35 check it out. Ill be testing it out when I've received mine  ;D

Here's the promo link below : http://youtu.be/JFPM6LxnhlA

WARNING.

Just about motor windings, I thought I'd mention!

Spraying any paint solvents onto your motor winding can lead to perminant damage.  If you want to dip your motor take it to a professional motor re-winder and get it "dipped" or research how to do it correctly and with the right materials.

Be sure you know what is in a material before putting it onto your motor windings.

Motor Windings are coated with a thin insulating high temp varnish, if a solvent, cleaning or paint solvent gets in between the windings, the winding tension causes the winding to short.  The damage is practically irreparable.

It's not a solvent it's a coating which is also dielectric but conductive to switches and contacts and can withstand upto 130c

The warning is for those who may want to experiment with stuff.  Cleaning products is one some do a lot of damage

Although, paraffin oil in and over your gear is an acquired taste..  I had to use it once to flush out sand from a mixing desk volume slider, made a terrible mess, but it worked well.

Hi Folks,

If the film really is conductive, you sure don't want to use it on electrical components!  You better double check that information.

Sorry what I meant was its a dielectric coating film but doesn't restrict conductivity if used on contacts or switches etc  :-[ ;D

The problem is, is those paraffin~glycol mixtures are all good until the get contaminated and dirty.  You can sink stuff in oil as long as you allow any contaminants to settle.

If anything, Id just lightly spray a PCB lacquer over the controller PCB, seal all the phase wires and leave windings alone.  Id stay well clear from oily stuff over my gear.

All my hubs have lived through some of the worst floods and rain in Australias history and I never had to seal anything yet.  Its all breaths and I don't get moisture in any of my gear.

The day you seal your hub air tight, is the day you get water in your hub.  It will happen every time, with no fail.

Yes I was just curious.
But I have used urethene before.
Nothing can't it, because it made for this purpose...
Very strong, scratch, rust, temperature etc resistance...

What you need to look for is the nano electric pro not the cycle version, anyway How long does the urethan coating last before you have to re-apply ?

When applied you don't have to apply again.
Only one problem when applied there is no way back.
You can't remove it ;D
I think your motor will died earlier then  urethene will be gone ;D

I have used for the Magic Pie 3 motor.
No rust at all and very scratch resistance.

Alcohol can remove it not doubt.

I'll be begging to see pics of your gear in a years time to see if it remains clean and uncontaminated, sincerely.

See I got an old HBS hub still running for 5 years now. The insides are as dry as the day I bought it and I rode through flood water up to and over knee high for a week. its still dry inside.

You do know your windings are already coated and are waterproof.

Here is another suggestion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeKgmCdiEbQ

Fully reversible.  Im not sure if this works for your winding, it seems good.

Ill have to find out what Reid Welch uses.

"Note: the coating is a thick, rubber-like film applied in several coats.? It can be pulled off if ever I need to service the BMS or any of the cells in the pack.

This is a fully reversible modification that will allow the ebike (see my other vids here) to run in waist-deep water, or even fully underwater, without the least harm to the electrics or to the bike's parts or frame tubing: all is sealed or rustproofed.

And though it is a hardtail, it will bomb off curbings at top speed without harm."

Bring it on

Is that rubber coating called plasti dip by any chance ?
