speed has been reported to be a bit faster on the 48v1000w kit,
and better hillclimbing on the mp.
But those differences are only notacible if you have both

i had the very same dilema before buying a kit. I got a Magic Pie in the end but was not impressed by the hill climbing, my rear motor will die on steep hills without pedalling.  I now have  front and rear pies connected to one battery and the difference is unbelievable.

I have not tried the 48v/1000w motor so I cannot really comment. Build wise the HBS 1000w will be a little lighter but the power cable will come out of the axle and not the hub as in the MP. there is the choice of the internal controller on the MP if you want to build a neat discrete bike. The HBS 1000 is probably a little quieter and I believe it to be faster. I did read somewhere that someone had tried both and the 1000 HBS was faster and better on hills than his friends MP??

I have tried looking at the pdf performance files on GM's website in the hub motor section and i'm sure the 1000w HBS has a better torque performance?? try looking yourself.  On the motor comparison page it gives the torque/power figures for all the motors apart from the MP which just says "coming soon", Hmmmm.....

If you can afford it get two pies and wire to one battery ;D

My 48v1000w motor is definatly faster then My dual pie. But it is also running on an older controller before the amps were pulled back at the factory. I wonder if I tried that controller on my dual pie. Actually I have 2 bikes with the older controllers. Maybe I'll try those on my dual. See how that performs. More testing! Yay! Now if only all this snow would .....

HELLO :D

No, they are not unfortunately.. Check this post for some more info there.

If you make some protection, even a spring sliding into the axle would be a good idea. Most hubs with the wire coming from the axle have this now anyway.

One of these would protect it should your bike fall over or knock something. So if it's protected I wouldn't see it as a problem :)

The Magic Pie has more torque. It has stronger acceleration... (reacting?)

salut lolo
allez en anglais pour que tout le monde en profite
I had 2 pies one with internal and other with external controller
the internal seemed more powerfully than the external
and finally the external controller died
ordered a new and surprise : both pies are now as powerfull as each other
I guess the first controller had some trouble
but other surprise : the new controller doesn't make rege ! but the first did and my internal does !! strange !
fortunately I don't need it cos it was too strong for this bike that carries my two children : the brake was much too strong and didn't want to " enter" the controller : do not touch to that works as good as you like !!!!! ohhhh noooooo
