My new Magic Pie, Is it a II or III
« on: January 14, 2012, 09:05:37 PM »
I just received my wheel (24" w/ 48v battery pack).  I have many questions, but, an answer to the first may answer most of the rest... I did not receive any documentation (installation instr.).  What is the best online source for installation instructions for a first timer?  I don't necessarily need mounting instructions as this is going on a Trailmate Regal Hauler adult trike (front wheel w/ disc brakes).  Mostly electrical...  Also, do I have a MP III or a II?  How do I tell the difference?  I have a separate controller box, but, I understood that the hub motor had internal controller?  What exactly have I gotten myself into?  Any and all help will be appreciated.  Tim

Sounds like you have an external controller version of the MP2. Have a look at this thread. Take it one step at a time it is a lot easier then it seems.

Hi Tim,

The easy way to tell the difference between Pie II and Pie III is the cooling fan assembly which was incorporated into the design of the Pie III to provide better cooling for the internal controller.

Pie II is available in both internal and external controller versions, but as far as I'm aware, the Pie III (which will hopefully be available soon) is only being produced as an internal controller version.

Pie II (with internal controller)                              Pie III

The original MkI Pie is easily identified by its crossed spoke pattern...

... and its rim being centred on the motor, instead of the axle.

I think he meant "ta" which is a friendly way of saying Thankyou. Not sure if that's a familiar word in Canada, maybe only Australia and England

:D
