DONT USE ALUMINUM FORKS
« on: December 18, 2008, 01:49:49 AM »
I thought 'oh, they are just being over cautious.'

This is what happened to me. (no injuries, no other damage.)

This was a front fork, and I had just moved the kit from
a bike with a steel fork to one with an aluminum fork.

I got everything wired up and while lowering it from
the rack accidentally spun up the wheel.
I
t snapped and came out when the wheel
touched the concrete.

Luckily I was beside and not on,
and the throttle was off when it touched so it didn't
take off and rip wires out.

It was done with a 500W front wheel.

I replaced the fork with chrom-moly one that
has shocks and a decent area for the axle to
be supported.

I am currently looking into making something like
a coaster brake arm to secure the axle better.
