Just bought kit will not work
« on: January 06, 2009, 05:50:51 PM »
Hi,

I have just received the 1000W motor kit with the regen controller, but I have not yet gotten the motor to turn under power altough it does spin freely at all times.

The three lights on the throttle all stay on continuously when the battery is connected to the controller, Also the connections to the controller wiring seems strange - some clip in where as others are just bare wires,

Has anyone experience this kind of problem before ? I appeciate any input
thanks

Have you gone to the Goldenmotor site and read the installation instructions?  Seems I saw something there on shorting some wires, for a moment only, to program the controller.  Then check the hall wire connector as it's more than easy to have the male spade terminals bend and not connect correctly. I did this even when trying to be careful not to.  Good luck.

Which regen controller do you have?

The Standard controller has a couple of things that can
cause what you described.

1) All three of the round motor power wires need to plug
in to the corresponding colored connections.
Mine came loose when I tried to neatly cover the wires.
2) The small 5 pin connector must be connected, this is
the motor position sensors that tell the controller when
to turn on current to the wheel.  Be sure that pins did
not push out the back side of the connection, this happens.
3) The brake switch must be open.
4) The cut-off switch must be open.  Once opened (on)
the controller will delay a few seconds (5sec?) before enabling
   the throttle.
5) if your controller has a pink/pink wire pair, they must be
shorted with the suppled jumper.  This is a logical cutoff.
(It really should have a wrist strap switch like on a jet-ski.)

Hi lads,

I looked at all the connections and am quite confident they are secure and correct,

e-lmer, I have the new BAC-028X controller have you any experience with this one?, is it a reliable controller?

biohazardman, I cant seem to find the instructions regarding programming the controller - could you advise me where to find it or what to do please?

TOM, when would be a good time to call you?, I'm in Ireland and don't want to disturb you at night,

Cheers

I'm sure I understand the wiring diagram, but I haven't had time to do a full check of all the terminals, although I know the push buttons are working - so the cruise controll should work.

I opened the controller and the only obvious thing I can see is a hole in one of the small capacitors, I suspect it would be virually impossible to replace the capacitor without damaging the rest of the controller.

Once I finish fully checking the controller I intend on asking for a replacement controller,

If I find I've made a mistake in the mean time i'll keep you informed.

You must mistake the B+ wire and B- wire of battery.
Only do this, the BAC-028X will be broken.

We had test before saled out ,except these two wires, make mistakes with the other wires, the BAC-028X still be good.

Hi lads,

I got the kit working, there was in issue with the alarm part of the wiring diagram but Tom has updated it.

The kit works great and is capable of high speeds,

Thanks to everyone for helping me.

Philip,

what was the issue with "the alarm part of the diagram". I am currently debugging my setup. Nothing turns...

I'm guessing he did and you did the same thing that happened to me the first time I hooked it up...

If you do NOT put the alarm wire on the same Battery (POSITIVE) wire as The Controller the motor will NOT move.  You HAVE to make sure that you have that wire connected or the motor won't spin.

They make NO mention of HAVING to connect that wire, only that it's there "if" you wanted to use it for the alarm.

Was that your problem?

Let me know

Frank

Hi,

Yes that was my problem, as I recall the diagram said 'make to alarm' or something like that - that made me think if I connected the alarm wire to the + of the battery the alarm would be armed.

Sangesf is correct, the alarm wire must be connected to the + of the battery for the motor to turn.
