Magic Pie Edge goes on continuously
« on: August 21, 2019, 08:52:38 PM »
Hi everyone .. I apologize for my English but I use a translator hoping to make me understand ..
I just installed the Magic Pie Edge kit.
I'm paraplegic and I use it to pull my wheelchair, I'm looking for help because it doesn't work.
Previously I used the Smart pie 5 and never had any problems, I needed more power and I switched to Edge ..
When I accelerate the wheel goes forward but at the first small climb it starts going jerky .. up / down very fast so I have to stop to avoid damaging the forks.
Do you have any ideas? I'm thinking about the ko controller but it's new !!
Thanks, Luciano

Hi Luciano andto the forum.

I have not come across this particular problem before, but from your description it sounds like the battery power is somehow cutting out under load and immediately cutting back in again.

Which battery do you have, and can it supply enough current for the Magic Pie Edge under full load on it's default setting (at least 21 Amps continuous)?

I suggest that you carefully check all wiring connections (especially the battery wires and the battery connector contacts) and make sure that no wires are being pulled (or the battery pack moving about) when the motor is under load.
Check that the axle nuts are nice and tight (there should not be any movement between the axle and the fork dropouts).

If you able to video the fault and upload it to YouTube etc. and post a link, it would be very helpful if we could see (and also hear) exactly what is happening under load?

Dear Alan  :).. Greetings to all the fans, I follow the discussions with pleasure .. I am learning a lot from you.
I am lucky to have other batteries and I tried to replace it .. the problem remains.
I reported the parameters in default with the app and the Bluetooth and I don't solve ..
The wheel raised from the ground turns well both forwards and backwards.
When I accelerate on the road the engine gets out of control and vibrates back and forth quickly. As soon as I can I will make a movie.
I think it could be the cable or the controller.
I have an old Smart pie 4 controller and I had in mind to make an exchange to see if the engine works. Can it be an effective attempt?
I could also disassemble the Smart pie 5 controller I'm using now and swap it with the Magic pie Edge to see if it's all right what you say? It can be done?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Luciano,

As this is a new motor, you should contact your supplier and inform them of the problem before dismantling it to access the controller.

The controllers should be the same on the Smart Pie 5 and the Magic Pie Edge (Smart Pie 4 controller is usually different), but the firmware is different for each of these two motors.

If you have the correct USB programming cable, it should be possible to reflash your Smart Pie 5 controller with the correct firmware for the
Magic Pie Edge.

You can download the zip file containing the flashing tool and software from goldenmotor.ca, but make sure that you only use the "EDGE-20150702.0C8" file for the Magic Pie Edge.  ;)

Check out Gary's video on using the flash update program.

Make a note of the Phase wire connections on each of the motors in case they are connected differently.  :-\

Thanks .. Alan You're the best .. Unfortunately I'm out of warranty for health problems I delayed the installation and I really don't think Devi Motion (Netherlands) will help me .. I'll do some tests with the files you kindly provided me with ..
Good day!!
If I solve, I'll make you a monument !! ;) ;)
