VEC200 & HPM3000 MOTOR OVER-CURRENT PROTECTION - 3 BLINKING LIGHTS

Hi everyone,

We are desperate for some guidance...

We have a VEC200 and HPM3000 48v aircooled motor and are getting motor stall and 3 blinking error on our electric tram project. We have 2 of these trams and one is working beautifully (with the exact same components). The troubled one accelerates to about 30km/h and then slowly drops to zero and then you can take off again by switching from Forward to reverse. The good tram will happily accelerate to 100km/h with no hick-ups on the exact same track.


The error according to the manual:

Motor over-current protection - There is a short circuit in the motor phase or the motor phase to ground


What we have replaced/checked so far:

Replaced the motor controller
Replaced the motor
replaced the battery
replaced the wiring harness out of the motor controller
installed an earth strap
checked for short circuits

Still the same error@@@!! can anyone recommend where to look next

Hi Steve,

If you are systematically swapping components from one tram to the other, you should eventually find the faulty component that transfers the fault to the good tram.

If you were using a spare controller (instead of swapping from one tram to the other) were the controller parameters set exactly the same as the good tram?

It might be worth checking the +5V supply and the throttle signal output voltages on both trams to see if they are both the same.

Also check the Phase wire/Hall Sensor wire configurations to see if there is any difference there.

Could the brakes be binding (or tight wheel bearings etc.) on the problem tram?

I'm not sure what else to suggest, as you seem to have already covered most of the likely causes.
