Golden Motor Sport Bike issue

I have a goldenMotor sport bike. It has been working wonderfully until tonight. It started to rain and the bike was left outside. When I powered it up, the throttle was stuck and the bike was dropped. After this, it does not power on anymore and the brakes seem to be stuck in regen mode. I had to walk about a mile and a half while trying to push the bike home. Any ideas on how to get the brakes out of regen and power the bike back on?

Hi Bobby andto the forum.

If the wheel is still stiff to turn with the battery disconnected, then the controller has probably died.   

Disconnecting the controller from the motor will get the wheel moving again, but the controller will need to be replaced to get the motor running again. 

I presume you have a Magic Pie motor with internal controller, in which case the wheel will need to be removed to access the internal controller.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure which motors I have, but yes, they have internal controllers. Looks like I have more problems, as this morning when I turned it on, the battery smoked.

If you have dual motors, you my have to disconnect the battery cables on both motors to see if both controllers are dead.

With the two motors isolated from each other and the battery, try to turn each of the wheels to see if it is just one stiff wheel or two. If both wheels are very stiff to turn, it will be both controllers that have died. 
If the battery got soaked as well, the BMS may not be functioning properly, hence the smoke when you turned it on this morning.

If the battery is not hot, place it somewhere warm and dry and the BMS may hopefully dry out and start working properly again, unless it was a failed component on the BMS that produced the smoke.

If the bms is smoked, can this be ordered and replaced? The battery pack still charges fully.  Thanks

Also, I believe the bike is about 5 years old. How can I tell what type of motor and controller I have.  Thanks again.

Not sure if this helps to identify the motors, but here is a couple pictures.

If the BMS is damaged, then you should be able to find a suitable BMS to replace it with, but you will need to provide more details of the battery to determine which BMS would be suitable.

It looks like your bike has MPIII motors, as shown in Gary's video.  They are not MPII motors and, if they are 5 years old, they are too old to be MP4 motors (with the Sine Wave controllers) as the MP4 was only released in 2014.

If the motors used to make an obvious noise when under load, then they will definitely be the MPIII motors with the older square wave controllers. 

Unfortunately you cannot upgrade to a quieter Sine Wave controller.    The MPIII and MP4 motors are different and the controllers are not interchangeable.

I believe the battery pack is 48v10ah. I can double check when I get back in town (flying home for the weekend). Sounds like worst case scenario is I need 2 mpiii controllers and a bms for the specific battery pack.

Do you think it would be worthwhile or possible to just replace the wheels with new Magic Pie 5 wheels. Do you think there is any benefit doing it this way?

If you have the later style harness with a 10 pin connectors, you may be able to simply plug in a pair of MP5 motors, which would be much quieter than the MPIII motors.

You would need either a Bluetooth dongle and suitable Android phone or the correct USB programming lead to adjust both controllers (programming one at a time) to the desired settings for regen level, acceleration and maximum current etc..

The biggest benefit would be the big reduction in motor noise under load, the maximum speed might increase slightly, but the combined power will still be limited by the maximum current output of the battery.

Obviously a pair of MP5 wheels will be a lot more expensive than a pair of controllers (or just one controller if only one controller has died).
