Smart pie problems

Hello all,

I have an smartpiefor a wheelchair handbike. The reverse button has been failing since some wires were cut. I fixed it
but now when I throttle to max the motor off and when I reduce aprox to 80-90% of throttle the motor works again.
do you know what happened? Could be the controller? or Could it be that fixing the reverse wire, perhaps I put some wiress together that should not be touched and something has been damaged?

I need some help. I need the smartpie to move.

I will repeat my reply to your PM for the sake of others reading this thread:

What wires could you have joined together?
Have you checked that the repaired wires are properly insulated and are not touching exposed sections of other wires?

There is nothing obvious that I can think of that would cause the cutting out at full throttle, but as your battery is OK, and the problem only started after the repair, it sounds like it may be something either connected incorrectly or poorly insulated.

Double check the repair and carefully check for signs of touching or incorrectly connected wires, or sharp edges of soldered joints that may be piercing the insulation of adjacent wires.

Thanks Alan for you answer.
The reverse gear only worked when I turned the handlebar direction, so it seemed that there were some bad contact (wires cut or something), and I think that a resistance of the controller could has been burned to squeeze the throttle to the maximum and suddenly workk again due to  when I turned the handlebar and making contact with the accelerator to the maximum has been able to burn something inside the controller.
I opened the controller and it seems that there is something a little bit burned, I scraped it a bit and I have put it all back together, and now it does not cut, but it has lost almost all the power, both forward and reverse. So, I believe and I hope that replacing the controller with a new one solves everything. Some recommendations from where to buy it, taking into account that I live in Spain, to avoid extra customs and other expenses.

I wonder if it could be the +5V regulator in the controller that is failing (and was breaking down completely under the higher load at full throttle):-\

Try unplugging the brake switch wires temporarily to see if it makes any difference to the power, if it does, plug them back in one at a time to determine which brake switch/wiring is faulty.

You can check the available voltage on the +5V supply to make sure it is at least 4V, as the throttle signal voltage (the output from the throttle Hall sensor) needs to be at least 3.25V at the controller to achieve maximum motor power and rpm.

If the +5V supply is lower than 4V, then an external +5V supply to the throttle may rectify the low power problem.

Something like this DC-DC converter can be adjusted to supply the required 5V supply from your 48V battery.

If the controller does need to be replaced, check out the GM dealers closest to you for a quicker delivery.
