New member - Sherco Trials Bike conversion - HPM5000B-48V
« on: September 30, 2018, 10:14:51 PM »
Hi All

Thank you for this great forum.

I have just ordered:
HPM5000B-48V BLDC motor
VEC300-48 Controller
LFP 4820 LiFePO4 48V 20Ah battery

The donor bike is a 2016 Sherco 300ST trials bike.
Have ordered toothed pullys and belt for 1:2 reduction transmission (same as Electric Motion design).

Should I start up a new thread (if so in which section) to describe the build?

Hi andto the forum.

I have moved it to this section so you might as well continue with this thread.

I presume you have already seen this thread regarding gear ratios.

Thanks Alan for moving the post, and the info on gear ratios.

I have had a good look at the EM bikes and have spent some time riding one.
My design is based on the EM trials bike.

I am doing the 1:2 belt reduction drive transmission.
The toothed pullys and belt are easily obtainable (Gates).

At this stage the default chain sprocket ratio is 10:42 teeth which gives 1:4.2 ratio.
After the 1:2 reduction that gives 1:8.4

I can easily add a smaller chain sprocket at the front if needed (or larger at the rear).
Will wait and see how it rides.

Work has begun...

Engine has been removed.
The frame has been modified to allow clearance for the battery.

Next is electric motor and transmission support structure.

See attached image.

The parts have turned up from Golden Motor delivered to the door.
Motor, controller and battery.
Great service.

I am still waiting on pullys and belts from Gates (USA).
It turns out the Australian importer and there distributor do not carry any stock.
Why bother using the Australian importer I ask?

I suppose, if they didn't have to import it, they would not be called an "Australian importer". Perhaps you should have searched for an Australian stockist instead?  ::)

It's disappointing that you don't have the belt and pulleys, as I was really looking forward to seeing a video of you riding it tomorrow.  :D

On a more serious note, did you also order a twist throttle from GM? And I hope that you didn't forget to order GM's USB programming cable to enable you to adjust the controller's parameters.  ???

I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of this all going together nicely.  ;)

P.S. You might want to take a look at Gary's interesting video showing what's inside the 20Ah and 30Ah battery packs.
I'd want to put a bit more packing inside to ensure all the cells remain securely in place when they're subjected to trials riding forces.  ;)

The battery is in at last.
It required opening the battery to remove the handle and add a new bracket.
Also the controller has found a place nice and high up.
The 6mm MDF is used to facilitate design and is replaced with aluminium plate.

Going has been slow, but it is happening...

Bike is undergoing trial testing.
It rides well easily jumping a 40cm log.
Gearing is about right.
Still need to work on a few things.
Will do a youtube video in  a few weeks :-)

The pullys bearings and belt for the transmission.

Hi, where did you find these pulleys kit ? any reference order ?

thanks

my project : GasGas TXT 280 pro 2004

I hesitate about use HP5000B with gear 2:1 for first ratio, or directly HP1000B with more amps with less rate distance...

As it is a trial , I want to take off front wheel during slow speed, top speed hope 40 Mph - 60km/h

thanks for your advice
