ERD of standard MP3 rim
« on: September 16, 2013, 04:31:53 PM »
I own a MP2 and want to use am Mavic EX729 rim, but cannot calculate the spokes length, because MP2/3 spoke-holes are not symetrically arround the hub.

Does anybody know the ERD of the standard MP2/MP3 rim? New schema uses 110mm spokes length, but I think 110mm is to short for the EX729.

Hi Joe,
I have never measured the ERD for the GM rim but this might help:

My 26 RIM standard had 110 MM spokes, but the mavic ex719 required 118 MM

It might help to take a look at this post too.

Hi Joe, measure the erd of the ex729 and get the pie motor and a measuring tape and phone this  spoke maker.... http://www.tillercycles.co.uk/page2.html#spoke  you will need 13 gauge spokes and normal 4mm nipples and probably 120mm spokes.   Speak to the man at Tiller cycles and he will ask you for some measurements of the pie, so it would be better if it was unlaced from the gm wheel.   Ask bike mad for some mp2 diagrams to see if he has the dimensions of the pie which might make thins easier.  The spokes and nipples will cost about £35.00 but you will not regret putting the pie into a strong rim.
I have a 719 and an ex729 rim and I must admit the 729 seems the strongest and easiest to lace with spokes as each nipple hole has its own 'well' so you don't keep dropping it through the rim as you are lacing the spokes.

Edited to say that  the Mavic Ex729 rim is a really tough rim top quality rim, I meant to compare it to a 719 that I have.  Rewritten above.

Thank you very much for your help!

I ordered Sapim ED spokes 120mm with 16mm niples.

The spokes will do, but they could be a little bit shorter, i. e. next time I'll use 118mm spokes with the EX729 rim and MP2 / 3.

Best regards

Joe
