Cruise Controller No Longer Works - Using New Universal Internal Controller

Hi Everyone

Well after what seemed an eternity I have finally got a replacement from my blown controller. I now have the new universal internal controller that fits both MP3 and Smart Pie.

I have gotten rid of my previous battery which wasn't up to the job and bought a 48v 10ah lifepo4 GM battery

Installed the controller with the wires in the same position as my previous controller and got nothing but an unpleasant noise when throttle pressed. Took it apart again and switched the yellow and green wires. Motor now works.

All is nearly perfect but now the cruise control button doesn't do anything. I've checked all the wiring from that button and it all looks fine.

Has anyone else used one of these new style internal controllers? Is it possible the cruise control will not work with them?

Any tips on troubleshooting this further would be much appreciated....

Not sure about the cruise button. Sounds like the switch needs to be tested?

It's a shame they switched the wire positions and supply no wiring diagram! Another 40 mins of my life wasted....

I tested the cruise control button and it is working fine. I then swapped out the universal controller for the one you sent me as a replacement for my original and the cruise control is now working again.

I bought the Universal direct from GM China and will be asking them if cruise control is expected to work.

Interested to hear if anyone else has used one of these yet? I'm no electrical engineer but the build quality of the newer model looks a lot better to me.

Ok - so maybe I was a bit hasty in blaming the new Universal controller for lack of cruise control...

I installed the old style internal controller last night and the cruise control appeared to work when I tested with the wheel on an axle stand. Now that I have put everything back on the bike the cruise control button is doing nothing again.

I've tried switching the cable to the horn button to rule out the button no longer working but same result.

I can measure current across the 2 wires going into the button so there is power going through the cable. Should this change when the button is pressed in? I really don't know how the button works...

I could buy another cruise control/horn button but I don't have much confidence this will resolve the issue.

Anybody have any tips as to what I can do to troubleshoot from here?

Well that was an unpleasant journey into work after my cruise control got stuck on approaching a queue of traffic... Really wish I had left easier access to the battery keyswitch as I have no other cutoff mechanism. Lucky the throttle was only about a quarter on. I managed to yank the cruise wire out of the harness but that did not cut the cruise control. Can't have done my motor much good braking against it

I am really confused by the issues I'm having with cruise control. I have replaced the whole switch for a brand new one and tested on 2 different internal MP3 controllers.
Sometimes the button works sometimes it doesn't work and sometimes it works when you press it very hard for several seconds? The exciting thing is that you never know if you will be able to turn it off again (took me over a mile at full throttle on one trip and managed to switch it off 100 yards from a T junction.)

The only thing I can think of to try next is replacing the wiring harness that takes the brake/cruise/throttle wires. I can see nothing obviously wrong anywhere.

If anyone has any advice or has suffered similar issues it would be great to hear from you.

The brake switch is supposed to override the cruise control, even
if the button is shorted on.  Can someone test this?

It sounds like a shorted switch tho.
I have never tried pulling the control harness, but it sure enough
leaves the controller on cruise.

GM: If the control harness comes unplugged the default
state should be off. 
This is a major safety issue!

The brake switch probably does override the cruise. I don't have brakes fitted as I wanted to keep my hydraulic disc setup. On the first version of my build I had the brake switch wired into the horn button on my cruise/horn switch which worked well. Since changing batteries and controller that button setup stopped working. I tried all sorts to fix it but in the end assumed it was my clumsy soldering around the switches that was causing it to short.
I've since bought a brand new button set which seems perfect inside but I still have the problem.
I've made sure I have easy access to switch the power to the battery off now so hopefully I won't have a repeat of last weeks adventure.
I have found a UK dealer that can sell me a wiring harness for £24 which I may purchase as I don't want to start cutting mine up to see if I can spot a problem.
If it still doesn't work then I'm all out of ideas....
