Loose connection at battery/throttle splitter box?
« on: August 20, 2010, 11:56:44 AM »
Hi all,

First time poster and newbie to the whole e-bike thing. Got a Magic Pie earlier in the week but seems like there's a loose connection at the wire going from the battery/throttle splitter to the Magic Pie. When I hold it to the right the throttle lights all light up and motor spins but when I let go the motor stops and throttle lights go out. As it's a new wheel I haven't used it on the road and am a little reluctant to try to open the box as it might void the warranty.

I tried emailing the guys at Golden Motor but no replies as yet, but it's only been a day or two since I sent.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to get the input.

Hey Irishguy
Sorry to hear about your troubles..

You can assume right there is a loose connection there, can you possibly take a close up pic of the cable coming out of the hub on both sides?
There may be some stress signs in the cable that show better in a pic?

Only saying this because the cable has about 20cm distance from the controller, supported by machine spring clips, so it would be unlikely to be coming directly from the controller itself

cheers

Hi MonkeyMagic,
Nice to hear from you. Just took a few more pics. The wires all seem fine to me. I gently moved the wire at the motor hub and it had no effect. It seems to be the where the wire from the Magic Pie and the splitter box meet but it's pretty tightly sealed up so I'd be even unsure how to open this up without doing even more damage and probably voiding the warranty.

I could always zip tie the splitter to the frame in the way that works but past experience with dodgy phone chargers has taught me this usually doesn't last for very long...

It's the side in the pic IMG_1398 where the problem is as far as I can make out.

Thanks

Hi IrishGuy,

welcome to the forum  :) Are you living here in Ireland. I'm Irish too!  ;D

I would e-mail tom directly. Keep your emails short and to the point, as the language barrier can be a problem! It can take a long time for replies. I e-mailed 2 months or more looking for the internal controller and got no reply, long story and my fault, but after a few e-mails he stopped replying!

here is Tom's e-mail

zhourenli@goldenmotor.com

Their customer service is a disaster and I will make no apologies for saying that at all!!!

Good Luck

Mark

Hi Mark,
Good to hear from you. Yeah I'm beginning to see the after sales is a bit lacking. Long story short I've zip tied the wires and box to the bike's frame. Apart from 1 time it died on me so far it seems to be working after about 50km done. So fingers crossed that wriggling the wire and zip tying might do the trick...
Thanks again for the input !
