Programming cable for Magic pie 2
« on: June 13, 2024, 06:14:11 PM »
Hi,

I have four old Magic Pie 2 motor that I need to change the settings for, I'm therefore looking for a way ot program these.

The programmer that was developed for the Magic pie 2 motors is discontinued from golden motors. Has anyone tried to modify the programmer for Magic pie 5 with a contact that fits the Magic Pie 2 and been able to successfully program the controller? Or is there someone who is willing to sell their MP 2 programmer to me? :)

Best regards,
Rickard

Hi Rickard andto the forum.

The Magic Pie 5 USB programming lead is only suitable for the vector controllers (MP4 and MP5) which use a different VEC programming software (PI-800), so it is unlikely to work with your MPII controller.

The PI-300I USB programming lead is suitable for the MPIII controller which used the same programming software as the MPII (PD_282_speed).

If you are unable to get hold of the correct USB programming cable, it may be possible to adapt the 8 pin PI-300I programming lead (or the 12 pin PI-200E cable for the external controllers) to work with your MPII, but you would need to be very careful with the conversion connections as the wire colours shown below may not match your particular programming lead as the colours often vary.

If you purchase a 8 pin Mini DIN Extension lead with both male and female connectors, you should be able to cut it in half and splice it into the PI-300I or PI-200E programming cable by connecting the required four wires so that it could also be used for MPIII or external controller programming if necessary. ;)

I would also stagger the joints in the wires similar to the diagram below even though you are only using four of the eight wires:

I recommend that you carry out a simple continuity check to determine what colour wire goes to each of the four programming pins in the connectors to confirm their correct function before trying to reconnect the four wires from the USB cable to your MPII controller harness.

The above wiring diagram should also apply to the MPII harness, but the unused Yellow wire shown is sometimes pre-wired to the throttle switch to operate the Reverse function.

I hope this helps.

Alan

Hi Alan,

thanks a lot for your very detailed reply! This reply contains what I need for proceeding with this project. I will test this during the upcoming weeks and will keep you posted about the results.

I will for sure measure the cables and connections to make sure that everything will be connected correctly.

Thanks again for your help!

Best regards,
Rickard
