Learning to use the battery
« on: January 27, 2021, 06:38:59 PM »
Hello.
I have the Magic pie 5 vector.
I am disabled (bad back) but I can and want to do some pedaling, with assist of course.
The battery is the LiFepo 48v but I have read that it can be ran at 36v too?
I was led to understand that this is not as fast as 48v but it give you more miles to travel then?
If it does then can it also be ran at 24v and get even more miles to travel?
I felt like I was pushing it when I did a 16 mile trip.
I need to cover more miles and am not overly concerned with doing 30MPH.

Thanks for any opinions and suggestions.

Hi andto the forum.

The Magic Pie's controller can be set to run on 24V, 36V, or 48V batteries, but your 48V LiFePO4 battery can only be used with the controller set to 48V.

Halving your maximum speed by setting the Maximum Forward speed (rpm) to 180 instead of 360 should greatly extend your range, as a lot less power would be required to maintain the slower speed.

Reducing the Battery drawn current would also help to increase the range, but the acceleration and assistance on steep hills would also be reduced.  :(

If you need more range without compromising the power and speed you would either have to fit an additional 48V LiFePO4 battery, or replace your existing battery with a single larger capacity (higher Ah) battery.

Check out this post for further details.
