New to forum and but need tips for Magic pie 4 PAS
« on: September 10, 2018, 01:56:57 PM »
Hi and nice to meet you all.

My story how I ended up with a goldenmotor mountain bike went like this:
- For almost a year I were randomly checking at cheaper ebikes available in and around I live, while facinated by the online DIY bikes
- One Sunday I saw from a distance a diy bike which I immediatly sensed might be a strong/durable ebike (not knowing goldenmotors then)
- I approached the owner and asked if he were interested selling it, but he declined, but then I figured if he can let me know who the supplier is then I can build one myself.
- A long story short, he gave up his supplier and allowed me to buy his ebike and since then I were very happy, until I installed my PAS.

ANY TIPS to get my Magic Pie 4 - PAS to work.
- My LCD display show no errors
- When I cycle I do not feel any change in assistance when I change modes
- When I use my thumb throttle the bike gives power as it should (as it worked before the PAS)

?

Hi James andto the forum.

I've just read your PM and thought it would be better to reply here in case other forum visitors ever experience a similar problem.  ;)

From your description, it appears that the pedelec sensor is not having any effect on the motor.  When fitting the plastic magnet ring and Pedelec sensor to the bike, it is important to make sure that the arrow on the magnet ring is pointing in the correct direction to match the normal pedal rotation.

I found that a more consistent/reliable pedelec operation could be achieved by placing the magnet ring as close as possible to the sensor (but without touching against it).

The three wires from the sensor should be properly crimped into suitable connectors (or soldered directly to the Red, Black and Yellow unterminated thin wires on the motor harness) to ensure good electrical conductivity. Any exposed crimped/soldered joints must also me individually insulated to prevent the joints from touching against each other.

If you have the USB programming lead and a PC with the correct programming software, it might be worth altering the "PAS Ratio ( 0.1 times )" to see if it makes any noticeable difference.

If you purchased the pedelec sensor from a GM dealer, it should be the correct "pulse mode" type required for the Magic Pie, but if you have purchased a "variable voltage" type from a different source, it will hopefully work with a Magic Pie controller if its signal output wire is connected to the throttle signal wire instead of the pedelec signal wire.

Hi Alan,

Good news it works, it was the disc that was mounted the wrong way and it changes power between the different modes.

Thank you for the insights.

Hi James,

It's good to know it was an easy fix and that it is now working correctly.
