Required amperage question?
« on: April 06, 2018, 01:05:36 AM »
Hello.. I’m trying to learn and understand basically by reading as much as I can..

I am looking at 5 to 10 kw motors and many look very impressive on paper with the torque and power ratings but are rated at 100 to 350 amps. I cant seem to find a single battery that has a constant discharge rate over 60 amps and most are 30 to 40 amps and rated surge amp at 60 ish.

Why are motors rated at such high amperage?

Start and acceleration torque requires high ampage. I could not find on that did what I wanted, so built my own battery.

How much amperage did you build for?

I built my own battery, you have to figure out the cells max amperage per cell and then see what the max draw and divide by the number of cells. I built mine out of 18650 cells.
