No lights on the throttle Magic pie5
« on: November 17, 2016, 09:21:50 AM »
I have checked the voltage output and its fine when I turn the battery on I can hear the controller tick so there is definitely power getting to the controller.

Hopefully you can help me.
It was working okay lights were coming on and the throttle was working fine.
But my Bluetooth wasn't working straight out of the box on set up it was flashing constantly superfast so I decided to follow Gary's YouTube video for flash the controller (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD8_zPrg6wQ&t=105s) which I did but the only thing I didn't do correctly was the sequence of when to turn the battery on. My battery was on when I started the flash and now when I turn the power on I get no lights at all on my throttle and nothing at all works. Do you have any ideas as to what I've done or how I can fix it.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,

Did the controller stop working immediately after the attempted flash update?
If so, are you sure that you selected the correct MP5 file instead of the SMP5 file which is for use with the Smart Pie?

Have you tried to reflash the controller using the correct sequence and the correct file?
If so, was it successful, or did it fail to complete the flash process correctly?

Can you connect to the controller using the USB Programming cable and PC software to check voltage settings etc.?

The battery gauge LEDs on the throttle control are not fed from the controller, they are powered directly from the battery and should come on when the battery is turned on (assuming the throttle has not been disconnected or the LEDs have not blown).  If there was an unexpected short circuit in the controller, the battery's BMS should automatically cut the power completely, in which case, the LEDs would not be able to light up.

Provided the controller is not in a short circuit state, then the fault could be caused by either a poor connection somewhere in the battery wiring, or faulty switch contacts inside the key switch.

Check for battery voltage at the battery plug connectors while the controller is connected and the battery switched on.
If there is no sign of battery voltage, check all connections on the battery cables and then try wiggling the key off and on slightly to see if battery voltage appears, and check if the throttle LEDs light up (or they might just flash momentarily when the controller clicks).

Please let us know the results of these checks.

Alan

Awesome thank you.
It was a loose wire at the battery switch.
So have the lights and throttle working now.
Will sort Bluetooth tomorrow hopefully.

Also is there an email list I can go on for the release of IOS app?

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,

I'm pleased to hear that you've located the problem, all it now needs is a nice permanent soldered joint to prevent it from happening again.  ;)

Unfortunately there is no email list for the iPhone App, but I'm sure it will be announced here when (or if) Apple finally release it in their App Store. The App was submitted a very long time ago, but I don't think there is anything GM can do to speed up the release process.

At least with an Android device you can simply check the "Allow installation of applications from both trusted and unknown sources" option in the "Security" section and download and install Apps directly.

I won't have an iPhone simply because I don't like, want, or need any of the unnecessary restrictions that come with it.   >:(
