Battery check up
« on: September 26, 2014, 05:01:20 PM »
I purchased a 48w/20Ah LifePo4 battery and want to get it checked-up for proper voltage/amps...whatever is involved...

I know very little about batteries. Can anyone shed light on this for me?

I am very mechanical, so if I can buy a meter of some sort and do a thorough round of testing I'm all for it. Or, where would I take it for a professionals expertise?

Thanx!!

I would recommend aquiring a multi-meter as it is good to have when owning an e-bike. Where did you get the battery? The max rated continuous amps it can deliver would be helpful to know. too Do you have a charger for it? The charger will usually save what the charing voltage is (on a sticker somewhere). That would be your hot-off-the-charger voltage. To test its capacity etc... you will need to use a watt meter on your bike to measure how much 'juice' you have used vs what it is rated for.

Does the battery have a BMS (battery management system)? That is very important as you don't want to overdischarge/overcharge the battery.
