PAS sensor on GM Smart Pie need help
« on: February 17, 2013, 04:23:43 PM »
Hi to all, I have a  Goldenmotor Smart pie, and I tried to modified it for my project and I took out controller. I have my own throttle control and it works but when I concerted just PAS sensor to work normally stand alone  it doesn't.
I connected White +5V(red), Black -(black) and Yellow(blue) wires on PAS sensor and it didn't work. Now my question is do I need to connect some other wires to make PAS sensor work or I just something else is not working I tried to change polarity of magnets and I was also peddling on different side and nothing worked out.

Pins on controller are:
PAS- pedelec signal (yellow wire)
XUN- cruse signal
RX- reverse signal
BR- braking signal
SB- Throttle signal (green wire)

Do you have any idea how to test pedelec sensor?
Will it work if I move it not on bike but in hands?
Do I need have connected some others wires for PAS sensor to work?
Do I need to change settings on Magic pie, or enable PAS if it is not already with factory settings?

Can you please help me iam without ideas now.
Thank you for any kind of help

Hi andto the forum HudPire.

I found with my pedelec that the magnets needed to be very close to the sensor (as close as possible without touching)

I have previously tried turning the disc by hand but it would not work because I could not turn it smoothly and keep it close to the sensor. I did however get mine to work eventually by putting a nut and bolt through the centre of the disk and using a cordless drill to spin it while I held it close to the magnets.

The sensor is very fussy about the polarity of the magnets, the distance of the magnets, and the direction of rotation.

If you have the programming cable it might be worth changing the PAS direction setting to see if it makes any difference.

Hi, Bikemad, thank you for your replay.
You gave me a great idea how to tried it with drill :)
Do you maybe know do I need some voltage on throttle to make PAS working?
I don't have programming cable but I can change directions and polarity to test it on my table.

The PAS should work regardless of whether or not the throttle is fitted, so there should be no need to supply any voltage to the throttle input if you are just using PAS.

If you are testing on a bench setup and also have the brake levers plugged in, make sure they are both fully released and are not held slightly open by the cable attachment link. These links can easily jam if the brake levers are operated without the cables fitted.
