LiFePo4 Cells Healing
« on: September 13, 2012, 12:31:50 PM »
Hi all,

I have several LiFePo4 cells, which have a nominal voltage (3.3V), but which voltage is dropping to 0.2V when even a small load (~50Ohm)  is connected.

Is it possible to heal such cells? How?

Thank you!

You can try to hook up to psu and immediately charging it.
This trick helps when the charger doesn't regconize the battery.

"This trick helps when the charger doesn't recognize the battery" - exactly, my charger detects the cell as "broken connection"

"You can try to hook up to psu and immediately charging it" - what is "PSU" ?

Is PSU the Power Supply Unit? Are you about a Power Supply from PC?

What about just connection of the fully charged LiFePo4 cell to the fully discharged (0V) cell? Will it work? Is not dangerous?

Thank you

Yes psu is power supply.
You need a voltage adjustable psu.

E.g. adjust to 3.5V and hook up your battery cell.
Do this for a while and disconnect the battery cell and measure the voltage.
Or be quick and charge the cell.

If you want to do safe buy a lipo back! :)

"Do this for a while" - how long time for?

What about connection the fully charged (3.4V) LiFePo4 cell to the fully discharged (0V) cell? Will one then charge the another? Is it not dangerous?

Thank you

Yes you can also do that way if you don't have a psu.

I did this trick several times with lipo, lipo is more harmfull then lifepo4.

Also lifepo4 is almost unbreakable no explosion danger, no fire danger etc.....
