External GM controller with Magic Pie 2 problems
« on: September 01, 2012, 09:44:58 AM »
I have an external gm controller wired to a Magic Pie 2 rear wheel, after the internal controller packed up :(... (48v 12ah gm battery)... the throttle won't work unless the bike is moving, and even then there is a lack of top speed (18mph with pedalling??!) Is there a problem with my controller? I've tried unplugging the hall sensor block from controller, but wheel doesn't work at all then??  I know you can get a USB cable to reprogramme controller (not sure if controller comes set to 250w settings as standard??)  I can't find usb cable in UK anywhere, does anyone have one available??   Also, my wheel makes a loud groaning noise and vibrates at low speed until it gets going?  All wiring seems ok... Any suggestions welcomed I am really stuck here.. thanks in advance :)

Hi there

Ive seen this before, on a mac motor, where the motor takes a lot more amps than it should also...is it an external controller, and if so, are the external phase wires hot ???...shounds a bit like a bad gearbox ???, basically the wiring configuration is wrong.....yellow is not yellow etc.....

where in the uk are you based ?

Hi and thanks for responding... i'm in southampton Hampshire... yes it is an external gm controller, all wires are connected properly, but which wires should I be looking for that are the wrong way round?? Are they coming from the hub motor to the controller? or from the battery? bit of a newbie with Magic Pie... really looking forward to getting this bad boy working if possible :-\
