MPIII Connector Type & Controller internal 5V power
« on: June 14, 2012, 08:41:07 PM »
Hey to all!

Does anyone know what type the connectors on the MPIII are or where to get them?

I want to power a self made speedometer / control unit ba usage of the internal 5V delivered to the hall sensor. Can someone tell me if it's possible to drain max. 100mA from this line without damaging the internal MPIII controller?

Thanks in advance!

Falbert.

I have a MP2, and would assume that 100mA would be okay... as long as your speedo drains a flat constant amp load.  If it doesnt, you might rob your hall sensors of power while biking and hear the 2 beeps from your speaker.  Then you will loose the ability to start from a dead stop.  If it does beep, disconnect the speedo and power cycle your cycle (yea you like that  ;D ) and then you will have your halls back.

Have you thought about using a DC-DC convertor, or even a small multi-voltage power module for a Kindle like device?  They are pretty cheap, and reliable.

My concern is that I have read about so many folks killing their Pie while doing similar things with the wiring of their Pie.

I found this  on the web for $8 US.  100-240Volt input, so your battery is plenty safe for it. 5VDC out at 375 ma.  USB connector output.  And no worries about overload in the Pie.
