Best Charger for 36V LiFePO4, 20AHr Battery
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:30:37 AM »
Hi guys,
I finally got my GM setup, 901, 750, 36V, going. Nice motor, and nice speed. I haven’t clocked it yet but with my 75lb. trike it gets me along at a nice speed; maybe 22- 27 mph.
My only hope is that it continues to work for a long while.
Setting up an electric vehicle is not one of the things that older people know or care to do but hey do enjoy the ride. So at this point it should be obvious to people what to do in the coming industry.
I’m 70, and as young of mind that I am able to endure.
To me; putting an electric bike together was an enjoyment. It confirms my hobby, electronics. I bad!
I would like to ask if there is a desired rate to charge my 36V 20AHr, LiFePO4 battery.
Presently I have a 5A charger.
Cya,

5 amp is good.

You may go to 10 amps as most Lifepo4s will tolerate a .5c charge.  Some will tolerate more.

Its not good to charge too fast as it will reduce the cycle life of your batts.  When the light goes green youre in constant voltage mode (CV) and this means your battery isn't finished charging.

So no matter what charger you get there is some time that will pass until your batteries are balanced.  The bigger chargers gets bulk charging done much faster,  balancing can take hours even on a big amp charger.

Bring it on
