Hi,

I want to build an bike with the MagicPie hub. Because I have some LiPo battery packs I like to use them for the power. The battery packs are 22,2 Volt 4 amps.
Can I use them with 2 packs series and 2 pack parallel, this will give 44,4V and 8 amps. Weight is just under 3 kilo's...
Will the voltage be a problem?

In the programmer interface I see only 24, 36 and 48V
Will this be changed so you can give 1V increments?

It will work fine. I run 16s headways so 50-55 volts all good and snappy.

At maximum charge, that's 16 x 4,2V = 67,2 V and not 50-55 volts as you said.

Is it possible to run the Magic Pie at 67,2V without burning it?

Headways are LiFePo4 and are only 3.2V per cell nominal rather than the 3.7V of a LiPo cell, so 16s fully charged would be 59.2V (still below the 60V limit).

I run mine on a 14s LiPo pack (58.8V fully charged).

I'm planning to replace my 250W mini motor for a Magic Pie.

My current values for the 250W mini motor are:

Wheel size: 20''
Voltage: 37V (10s LIPO)
Max Voltage: 42V (10s LIPO)
Current: 12A (18A peak)
Max Power: 504W (756W peak)
Max Speed: 20mph/32kph

The motor doesn't get warm unless I use all the torque when climbing (which I avoid).

I would like to know how much speed (aproximatelly) can I get from a Magic Pie using the same 20'' wheel and a 14S Lipo like yours. I would also like to know how much continuous current can I program using that 14S Lipo.

My 16s headway pack fully charged is just under 60volts off the charger then settles down to 53 or so. It really has great response to throttle at speeds up to 40kmh and then settles to 43 tops.

Luís, The 16" Pies have somehow been modified to run at a much higher rpm than the 26" Pies, but I don't know if the 20" Pies have the high rpm motor or not.

On a level road, my 26" Pie will do approximately 15mph (24km/h) on 29 Volts (7s2p 10Ah LiPo) and 25mph (40km/h)  on 58 Volts (14s1p 5Ah LiPo pack).

I'm guessing that the 20" Pie would be somewhere between 19-25mph (30-40km/h) at 58 Volts, dependant upon the motor.

I would set the Maximum Current to 20 Amps Continuous and 30 Amps Peak and see how it goes. If the motor does not get too warm, you could try increasing it and see if it makes any noticeable difference to the performance.

Unfortunately my Magic Pie is not programmable and the highest current draw I've recorded so far is 20.66 Amps (584 Watts) on the 7s pack and only slightly over 20 Amps (1157 Watts) on the 14s pack.

I don't normally monitor the regen current, because I have to reverse my Wattmeter to be able to do so, but here are the figures I obtained when I last monitored the regen current:
23.35Amps (681.5Watts) using a 7cell LiPo pack (25.9V 10Ah).
9.65Amps (525.8Watts) using a 14 cell LiPo pack (51.8V 5Ah).

I'm running on 16s. Runs really well - but the controller gets warm enough to auto-shutdown more often than I like. Looks like I'm going to have to cut my amperage (59.2V/11.6A Li-poly. 25C available with 35C peak) back a bit to keep things cooler. Grrr.

That would be 4.2v x 16 = 67.2V when full charged. How can you avoid the controller limit ( 60V )?

I was planning to buy a couple of 7S packs but if you assure me that I can run it with a couple of 8S packs I will do it.

By the way, before buying the pie I will deliver this voltage to the mini-motor. Why not? It doesn't even get warm with 42V.
