Magic Pie extreme resistance
« on: January 23, 2011, 07:31:49 AM »
Hi everyone,
Im troubleshooting a problem with my Magic Pie...
Ive been building my ebike for about a month now.. almost there, just need the battery - and to solve the most recent issue that popped up.
While building my bike - I would take it for very short rides, and could pedal around no problem.
now, ever since "truing" the wheel (it was a bit wobbly) - the resistance has become HUGE such that I can barely pedal.
Is it possible that the spokes were tightened too much somehow affecting the resistance in the motor?
Or perhaps something else went wrong?
Any help appreciated...
Curtis

Have you connected the 3 phase wires from the motor to the controller while testriding? Without power to the controller, this might damage the controller... (When the wheel are turning, power are generated, and can in some (rare?) cases blow the mosfets in the controller when no battery are connected.)

Try disconnecting those 3 fat phase wires from the controller and see if the resistance eases up.

I guess that it's possible to tighten the spokes so hard that you disfigure the hub, but that would be rare.... Besides, that would produce a mechanical gnashing noise from the hub... ;)

Edit:
Also, if those cables are not connected, make sure none of them are shorted to each other; that would create a significant resistance. :)

It was a short.... positive and negative terminal were touching where I am going to install the battery.
Thanks for the feedback.
