MP4 just stopped running..any tips??
« on: July 19, 2016, 11:10:10 PM »
Hi There,

Almost at the end of building a scooter for momsy that has taken forever. The MP4 has been running fine during the trial runs. Even got her up to 53km/h with a 48v/10Ah LiPoly battery. Few days ago went to take it for a spin after putting seat on, turned it on and turned the throttle but no response. Turned it off and back on and gave the back wheel and small spin and she responded to turn of the throttle. Then stopped. Turned power off-on again but no response at all.

Display is showing full battery and check of battery charge with multimeter says full charge as well. Have checked all connections and condition of cables and all seem to be ok. Have swapped out half twist throttle with spare thumb throttle that I have but still no response.

Hoping that someone may have some tips or can point out troubleshooting step I've missed. Or does this mean controller problems and pulling the thing down (again  :( )??

Any info much appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom, do you have the brake lever switches connected? If so, unplug both of them and see if it then runs.

Do the three LEDs light up on the throttle unit?

Have you made 100% sure that no wires are exposed and touching each other on the horn/lighting feed and pedelec/reverse wires?

If you have a pedelec connector fitted, you can check that the +5V feed is still working by measuring the voltage between the red and black wires on the motor pedelec/reverse cable. (If there is no 5V supply from the controller, then the motor will not run.)

Check that none of the connector pins have been bent or damaged.

Is there an error code displayed on the BAC-601 display unit?

If there is no error code displayed, and no obvious connector problem, then it could possibly be either the controller or a Hall sensor problem, but you would need to remove the wheel and controller to access the Hall sensor wires to check their operation with a voltmeter.

My mp5 has just done this, gone into software settings and the throttle is closed(off), tried updating via bluetooth but turn off and back on and is showing closed again.

If you have definitely saved the settings to the controller after altering them and they were not saved, try loading the default settings to see if it resets everything correctly again.

Also check that the unused wires for the horn, lights, pedelec and reverse are all safely insulated and that no copper wires are exposed and touching each other, as this could cause problems with both the running and programming of the controller.  ;)
