For those who think the GM motors are not that great quality look what I got with a BMC.

Errm there are some nice looking work in that motor.  It looks great on the bike.  But I can see the problems already when you scroll down a bit.

The axle bolt so it allows the thick wires is a little limp and thin, not to mention the razor sharp edges that is going to take out the sensors and controller, the winding look awesome.  A little more thought into the construction of the BMC and they almost nailed it.  Other than a few short axles the GM motor does shine.  The wire size problem is not going away anytime soon unless we get hub wires that enter the hub on the inside of the forks (rork = rear fork maybe)...  Interesting look into a different motor.

I took some time on my ultra fast 56kbs dial up connection to go through some of you album.  For one Pavlo, What a character! Does he go for rides on the Ebike.

Use silver solder to repair thin stuff as it wont oxidize or fuse into your materials.  it creats a very strong Ionic bond...

G'day all,

Since we're comparing hubs, I got mine from a place call zBike here in Aus. I'm not exactly sure what brand it is, but from my research is may be similar or the same as a GL1.

Anyway the first one I got was DOA as it would make a sort of grinding noise when turning and judder quite alot. Fortunately they sent me a whole new kit.

Curious as to why the first one failed, I opened it up and found that the coils had been rubbing on the face plate. See picture below.

Muzza.

Now that is real ugly for sure and looks a bit hard to fix, although not impossible.
Thanks for the post

Yup a for sure thing both companies almost got it right.  I think they will werq it out someday.  With the way the economy of the world is changing it would be nice to see us start making our own someday in the not so distant future. I was so close to buying a new motor from EV Tech too.  If I had I would not have wound up with this individual specimen.  Once things are over hindsight is not to useful for some reason.

I think back upon all the problems that can happen with an Ebike and think about all the problems ive had with cars and I honestly say it's easier to deal with the e-vehicle.  Though battery technologies are still developing faster now than before there is still some way go in this area.

Making our own hubs just looks seriously a big task with all those windings packed in and magnets dead in line,  I never thought of how hard it would be to place those magnets straight until I saw the above hub.  Kudos to the workmen that do this manual hub construction.
