What is Regenerative Braking and how is it used?
« on: July 02, 2020, 01:52:05 PM »
I just installed the Smart Pie rear wheel motor kit and I am trying to understand how regenerative braking works and how to use it. I assume that it will feel like braking is occurring without the need for mechanical brake deployment?  ???

The regenerative braking force on a Smart Pie is not as strong as mechanical brakes but it really helps to reduce wear on the mechanical brakes under light braking.

Check out this thread for more details.

Excellent thank you!
I assume that I can safely turn the regen setting in my software to MAX.

Max regen should be fine if you have larger wheels, but it might be too much if it's a 12" wheel on the rear of a scooter.  ;)

I suggest that you try it and see what it's like, you can always reduce it if it is too strong.

Thanks very much for the advice. I was worried about it causing an issue within the charging side, not so much about the brake force.
